Feast of Simon and Judas, The Apostles

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Luke 6:12-16.

Jesus went up to the mountain to pray, and he spent the night in prayer to God. When day came, he called his disciples to himself, and from them he chose Twelve, whom he also named Apostles: Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called a Zealot, and Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

THE Gospel today proclaims to us that Jesus chooses twelve men to be his friends and apostles for the sake of his mission. He chooses very ordinary people. They are chosen from the common people who do ordinary things, have no special education, and no social advantages. What does it mean?

Jesus wants ordinary people who can take an assignment and do it extraordinarily well. He chooses them, not for what they are, but for what they will be capable of becoming under his direction and power. Jesus Christ takes what ordinary people, like us, can offer and uses it for greatness in his kingdom.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we worship Jesus Christ who calls us to be his followers. We thank him for his love and grace for us all.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, give us an expectant faith in your saving power. Take our lives and all that we have as an offering of love for you, who are our All now and forever. Amen.
