Thirty-first Week in Ordinary Time
The Day for Praying for Priests

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to Luke 16:9-15

And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous mammon, so that when it fails they may receive you into the eternal habitations. “He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much; and he who is dishonest in a very little is dishonest also in much. If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will entrust to you the true riches? And if you have not been faithful in that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own? No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all this, and they scoffed at him. But he said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts; for what is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.”

This is the Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ

YESTERDAY we read the Gospel about Jesus who exhorted his disciples to be like the shrewd steward who used money generously to make friends and win for himself a secure and happy future. Generous giving is connected with alms-giving, the sharing of our financial and material resources with those in need.

We have proverb: A friend indeed is a friend in need. Those who receive our help become our friends because we are merciful to them in their time of need. More than each of us, God is merciful to us in our need for his forgiveness and help in Jesus Christ. So we have to serve and trust in him only.

We are able to serve him through our generosity to others in their need. True generosity enriches us always a hundredfold! So do not be afraid for doing true generosity.

But we can never outmatch God in generosity. He has given us the best of gifts in sending us his only-begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, who offered up his life for us on the cross. We worship him in the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist. There we learn to be faithful in a very little that we will be faithful also in much as Jesus wants us to be.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, it’s only you can satisfy our desires and give us generous hearts. Even, you died to set us free and you rose to give us new abundant life. You are our Master and Lord of our lives. Fill our hearts with spirit of generosity and joy in sharing what we now and forever. Amen.
