Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to Mark 12:38-44

And in his teaching he said, “Beware of the scribes, who like to go about in long robes, and to have salutations in the market places and the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts, who devour widows’ houses and for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.” And he sat down opposite the treasury, and watched the multitude putting money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. And a poor widow came, and put in two copper coins, which make a penny. And he called his disciples to him, and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury. For they all contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, her whole living.”

This is the Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

THE Gospel today proclaims to us that Jesus teaches his disciples a dramatic lesson in giving with love. According to Jesus, love doesn’t calculate; it spends lavishly! Love is more precious than gold!

Jesus praises a poor widow who gives the smallest of coins in contrast with the rich who gives greater sums. The widow in her poverty gives more than the rich who has ample and gives greater sums.

Surely, Jesus wants to teach us that real giving must come from the generous heart. A gift given out of love, with a spirit of generosity and sacrifice, is invaluable.

In fact, the poor widow can keep one of her coins, but instead she recklessly gives away all she has! Jesus praises her for she gives barely a penny. It is everything she has, her whole living.

When we want to worship Jesus Christ in the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we offer our time and heart that may look very small and not worth much, but  God can do with it and with us what is beyond our reckoning. Let give our time, heart and life with love that his name may be glorified in our daily lives.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, all that we have is yours. Take our lives, time, possessions and all that we have and use them as you desire for your glory now and forever. Amen.
