The First Week of Advent
Feast of the Apostle Andrew

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Matthew 4:18-22

As he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea;  for they were fishermen. And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”  Immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them.  Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed him.

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

TODAY is feast of the Apostle St. Andrew. In our time of preparing and reflecting on the mystery of Jesus’ coming, we learn from St. Andrew in responding Jesus’ call. St. Andrew immediately leaves his nets and follows Jesus.

As St. Andrew has done, when Jesus calls us to be his disciples, we must immediately leave everything and follow him. We must not think we have nothing to offer him in exchange. We just believe that Jesus wants to work through and in you for his glory.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist while worshipping Jesus Christ we pray for our neighbors, co-workers, and relatives that they may come to personally know the Lord Jesus Christ and grow in the knowledge of his love. We thank to God that Jesus Christ calls each of us to bring the joy of the Gospel to those around us.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, you have called us personally by name, just as you called your first disciples, Simon and Andrew. Fill us with the joy of your gospel. Help us to be a good and faithful witness of your kingdom to all we meet now and forever. Amen.
