The first Week of Lent
Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Matthew 7:7-12
Yesus says, “Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! So whatever you wish that men would do to you, do so to them; for this is the law and the prophets.”
This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

THREE important things proclaimed to us in today’s Gospel. First, Jesus invites us to ask, and we will be given; to seek, and we will find; to knock, and we will be opened to each us. For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
Second, Jesus tells us that we have God our Heavenly Father who always gives good things to those who ask him! Our Heavenly Father is always merciful.
Third, Jesus calls us to be merciful like the Heavenly Father. So he says, “whatever you wish that men would do to you, do so to them”. We remember Jesus also says, “Be merciful just as your Father is merciful (Luke 6:36). These words are similar in meaning.
In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, while adoring Jesus Christ we ask and seek his love that we are able to be merciful like Father. We know that prayer, holiness and merciful works are intrinsically linked.
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for teaching us how to pray more perfectly not only for the sake of ourselves but also for the sake of others. We take this moment of the Lenten to adore you and to enter into your loving presence. You know how weak our faith is, so we ask, seek and knock your door to help us to be merciful like the Father in heaven now and forever. Amen.
