Nineteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Matthew 18:1-5, 12-14

At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven?” He called a child, whom he put among them, and said, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the Kingdom of heaven. Whoever becomes humble like this child is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven. Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me. See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father. What is your opinion? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine in the hills and go in search of the stray? And if he finds it, amen, I say to you, he rejoices more over it than over the ninety-nine that did not stray. In just the same way, it is not the will of your heavenly Father that one of these little ones be lost.”

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

IN the Gospel reading today Jesus Christ consoles us with his words. He tells us that we have angels in heaven who always look upon the face of his heavenly Father. Their task? Of course, to watch over and protect each of us.

Jesus Christ also reveals himself as the best Shepherd who is going in pursuit of us, even when we are the lost sheep. He is committed to keeping his flock for he is the best Shepherd who sacrifies his life for us, his flock (cfr. John 10:11). No one left behind!

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, we adore Jesus Christ, our best Sheppherd. While adoring him we ask to have the heart of Christ. If we have his heart, no one can be left behind. Do we realize that every time we reach out in sacrificial love, we are making Christ present in the world?

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, we believe you are present here with us as we begin to adore you. We hope in you for we know that you will always take care of each of us. We want this time with you to be a sign of our love for you and for others. Give us hearts like your own, hearts filled with Christian charity now and forever. Amen.
