Twenty-Sixth Week in Ordinary Time

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Luke 9: 57-62

As Jesus and his disciples were proceeding on their journey someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” Jesus answered him, “Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head.” And to another he said, “Follow me.” But he replied, “Lord, let me go first and bury my father.” But he answered him, “Let the dead bury their dead. But you, go and proclaim the Kingdom of God.” And another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but first let me say farewell to my family at home.” To him Jesus said, “No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left behind is fit for the Kingdom of God.”

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

JESUS’ words in the Gospel today challenge us to willingly accept the cost of following in his footsteps. He calls us to follow him anywhere, whatever the sacrifice. We will find the day-to-day struggle distasteful because Jesus as the Son of Man, has nowhere to rest his head.

He also wants us to cut with all earthly relationships, immediately, and get on with the work of the Kingdom. As followers of Jesus Christ, we have to be willing to make a fundamental option for Christ alone.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, we want to learn to respond his calling. There we pay the cost of following in his footsteps freely and willingly. All the trials can be the cost of following him. What price are we willing to pay in following Jesus Christ?

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, help us focus our energies better on you and what you are asking of each of us. May we not be distracted by activities, material possessions or even relationships that aren’t helping our spiritual life now and forever. Amen.
