The Second Week of Lent
Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Matthew 20:17-28
And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside, and on the way he said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man will be delivered to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and deliver him to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day.” Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came up to him, with her sons, and kneeling before him she asked him for something. And he said to her, “What do you want?” She said to him, “Command that these two sons of mine may sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your kingdom.” But Jesus answered, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am to drink?” They said to him, “We are able.” He said to them, “You will drink my cup, but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.” And when the ten heard it, they were indignant at the two brothers. But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. It shall not be so among you; but whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave; even as the Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

IN today’s Gospel, again, Jesus teaches us about humility. So he says, “Whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave; even as the Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Jesus wants us to be humble person for serving God and others. We call it humility.
What is humility? It is not feeling bad about ourselves, or having a low opinion of ourselves. It is not also about thinking of ourselves as inferior to all others.
True humility is truth in self-understanding and truth in action. It frees us to love and serve others willingly and selflessly, for their own sake, rather than for our own.
With our humble hearts we have to put God, Christ and others first. We serve them lovingly in Christ. He will exalt us for serving others, especially when we bring others to love and serve him.
In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, while worshipping Jesus Christ we want to be a servant as Jesus loved and served us ans others. He himself has given us his Sacred Heart, the heart of a servant who seeks the good of others and puts their interests first in his care and concern for all.
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, too often we compare ourselves with others. It’s easy for us to imagine our superiority. We forget that everything we have comes from you, so we can’t claim credit for any of charisms, qualities and virtues. Help us to keep this truth in mind so we may have an attitude of genuine humility in our hearts now and forever. Amen.
