Twenty-Third Week in Ordinary Time

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Luke 6: 6-11

On a certain Sabbath Jesus went into the synagogue and taught, and there was a man there whose right hand was withered. The scribes and the Pharisees watched him closely to see if he would cure on the Sabbath so that they might discover a reason to accuse him. But he realized their intentions and said to the man with the withered hand, “Come up and stand before us.” And he rose and stood there. Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath rather than to do evil, to save life rather than to destroy it?” Looking around at them all, he then said to him, “Stretch out your hand.” He did so and his hand was restored. But they became enraged and discussed together what they might do to Jesus.

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

FROM the Gospel reading today we take a lesson from Jesus Christ that we have to do good, regardless of what others think. Jesus sees a person in need whom he can help. Although he sees around him many critics scrutinizing his words and actions, nothing will keep him from doing this good deed.

Jesus practices what he preaches. He speaks of love and compassion and he shows it. He speaks the words of life in the Sabath. He enriches our lives through his healing power.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, we adore Jesus Christ who always enriches our lives through his healing power. We ask him grace which empowers us to do charity in our lives. Can we still practice charity regardless of what others think?

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, you can read our heart, as you read the hearts of the Pharisees. We realize that we also have a tendency to be critical and not always constructive. Please Lord, make our heart be more like yours, desiring good, and being generous despite the criticisms that might come our way now and forever. Amen.
