Twentieth Week in Ordinary Time

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to Matthew 23:1-12

Then said Jesus to the crowds and to his disciples, “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat; so practice and observe whatever they tell you, but not what they do; for they preach, but do not practice. They bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with their finger. They do all their deeds to be seen by men; for they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long, and they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues, and salutations in the market places, and being called rabbi by men. But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brethren. And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. Neither be called masters, for you have one master, the Christ. He who is greatest among you shall be your servant; whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

FROM the Gospel today we first of all and foremost learn on the important of being humble. For being humble we need humility.

It inclines us to humble ourselves and to submit to God wisdom and guidance. Humility makes us realize ourselves that we truly are the sinners and beggars always in need of his mercy, help, and guidance.

It guides us to simplicity of heart, the willing readiness to seek the one true good who is God himself. Of course, true humility is not feeling bad about ourselves, or having a low opinion of ourselves. It’s not of thinking of ourselves as inferior to all others.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist while worshipping Jesus Christ, we are first and foremost realize that we are disciples and servants who sit humbly at the feet of our Master and Teacher the Lord Jesus Christ. There we learn to practice to be a humble person.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, you give us the greatest example and model of humility by emptying yourself, taking the form of a servant, and humbled yourself and even became obedient unto death, even death on a cross (Philippians 2:7-8). Teach us to be humble as you are humble and to love others generously with selfless service and kindness. Grant us humility that frees us to love and serve others willingly and selflessly, for their own sake, rather than for our own now and forever. Amen.
