Twenty-nineteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to Luke 12:39-48

Jesus says, “But know this, that if the householder had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have left his house to be broken into. You also must be ready; for the Son of man is coming at an unexpected hour.” Peter said, “Lord, are you telling this parable for us or for all?” And the Lord said, “Who then is the faithful and wise steward, whom his master will set over his household, to give them their portion of food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master when he comes will find so doing. Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions. But if that servant says to himself, `My master is delayed in coming,’ and begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and  drink and get drunk, the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will punish him, and put him with the unfaithful. And that servant who knew his master’s will, but did not make ready or act according to his will, shall receive a severe beating. But he who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, shall receive a light beating. Every one to whom much is given, of him will much be required; and of him to whom men commit much they will demand the more.”

This is the Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

FROM the Gospel today, we can learn on the necessity for constant watchfulness in our daily lives. Jesus’ story of the thief in the night confront us with the possibility of losing everything we presently own and treasure.

No thief will announce his intention in advance, nor the time when he will strike. Lack of vigilance will nonetheless invite disaster for those who are unprepared to keep their treasure and their lives secure at all times!

With this story, Jesus Christ invites us to be ready to answer him everyday. The day of the Lord Jesus Christ will come like a thief. We need to be spiritually alert and watchful at all times. He offers us grace today to turn away from our sins. We must not presume that we can wait another day.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we worship Jesus the Lord who comes to us each and every day to draw us to himself and to strengthen us in faith, hope, and love. He rewards each of us who are faithful and wise to accept him lovingly.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, you call us to be vigilant in watching for your return and to be ready to meet you when you call us to you. Give us your Holy Spirit so that we may have the wisdom, help, and strength we need to turn away from sin to embrace God’s way of love, justice, and holiness now and forever. Amen.
