Memorial of Saint Thomas Aquinas, Priest and Doctor of the Church
The Third Week in Ordinary Time
Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Mark 4:21-25
Jesus said to them, “Is a lamp brought in to be placed under a bushel basket or under a bed, and not to be placed on a lampstand? For there is nothing hidden except to be made visible; nothing is secret except to come to light. Anyone who has ears to hear ought to hear.” He also told them, “Take care what you hear. The measure with which you measure will be measured out to you, and still more will be given to you. To the one who has, more will be given; from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.”
This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

In the Gospel today Jesus says, “Is a lamp brought in to be placed under a bushel basket or under a bed, and not to be placed on a lamp stand?” What does it mean for us today? First, Jesus wants to remind us that we are the light of the world. He lets light shine on our lives so that we need not be ashamed that others see the truth about who we are as his disciples.
Second, as his followers we must realize that our life is not just for ourselves. We are called to be a gift for others, a gift that leads them to God’s mercy and to the joy of the Gospel.
Third, we are called to give our lives to participate in the fruitfulness of God’s kingdom. We give our lives by enlightening others to be witness of his mercy.
In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, while worshiping Jesus Christ, we learn to help others come to the Light. We try sincerely to go clearly towards the light and by not fearing to show people the truth that Jesus Christ really presents in the Most Sacred Sacrament.
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for this calling. You have given light to our souls so that we can be a light for others. May we be brave enough to allow this light to penetrate our souls even more and shine it to others now and forever. Amen.
