Twenty-Second Week in Ordinary Time

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Luke 4:38-44

After Jesus left the synagogue, he entered the house of Simon. Simon’s mother-in-law was afflicted with a severe fever, and they interceded with him about her. He stood over her, rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up immediately and waited on them. At sunset, all who had people sick with various diseases brought them to him. He laid his hands on each of them and cured them. And demons also came out from many, shouting, “You are the Son of God.” But he rebuked them and did not allow them to speak because they knew that he was the Christ. At daybreak, Jesus left and went to a deserted place. The crowds went looking for him, and when they came to him, they tried to prevent him from leaving them. But he said to them, “To the other towns also I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God, because for this purpose I have been sent.” And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea.

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

IN today’s Gospel Jesus Christ heals Simon’s mother-in-law immediately from her ill. He cures her because she believes in him. His grace is so effective in her life.

After being cured, Simon’s mother-in-law immediately begins to serve Jesus Christ. Immediately she forgets about herself and instead focuses on the needs of others.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, while adoring Jesus Christ we let him cure us. He cures us so that we might serve him and others. Do we let him heal us so that we also serve him and others?

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for coming into our lives. We are grateful for the personal attention that you give us, especially when we are ill and in need of your grace. Lord, cure us of our spiritual ailments so we may serve you in others now and forever. Amen.
