The Twenty-Seventh Week in Ordinary Time
Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Luke 11:5-13
And he said to them, “Suppose one of you has a friend to whom he goes at midnight and says, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, for a friend of mine has arrived at my house from a journey and I have nothing to offer him,’ and he says in reply from within, ‘Do not bother me; the door has already been locked and my children and I are already in bed. I cannot get up to give you anything.’ I tell you, if he does not get up to give him the loaves because of their friendship, he will get up to give him whatever he needs because of his persistence. “And I tell you, ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. What father among you would hand his son a snake when he asks for a fish? Or hand him a scorpion when he asks for an egg? If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the Father in heaven give the holy Spirit to those who ask him?”
This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

IN this passage of today’s Gospel, Jesus Christ teaches us that our Heavenly Father will gladly and lovingly provide whatever we need when we ask for it. Sometimes we think that God knows all things we need, so we do not ask him for anything. We only passively wait until God will give us what we need.
No, God wants us to ask whatever we need. When we ask God to provide for our needs, surely we implicitly recognize his existence and authority in our lives.
In fact, our petitions express our faith. Even, petitions in prayer increase our faith. The more we ask, the more we come into a personal relationship with God. So, don’t be afraid to ask.
In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, while adoring Jesus Christ we ask God to increase our faith by asking him whatever we need. Certainly God is generous and loving, willing to give us everything that is good for us; but he is still God, and he deserves our respect, adoration, and especially our gratitude. Do we ask him whatever we need in our life?
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, so often we expect you to take care of us without our having to ask. Help us to live our dependence on you through the practice of asking you for our needs. Increase our faith through our prayer and adoration so that we see our real dependence on you and how much you do for each of us now and forever. Amen.
