Feast of the Archangels St. Michael, Gabriel and Rafael
Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to John 1:47-51
Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!” Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” Jesus answered him, “Because I said to you, I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You shall see greater things than these.” And he said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.”
This is the Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

TODAY is the feast of the Archangels St. Michael, Gabriel and Rafael. The Gospel today quoted from St. John who tells us about Jesus Christ says to Nathanael that he will “see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man”.
What does it mean? Who are the angels and why do they intervene between heaven and earth? In the the Scriptures we read that the angels are God’s servants and messengers.
Let’s quote some quotations. Psalm 103:20 tells us that the angels are the mighty ones who do God’s word, hearkening to the voice of God’s word. St. Paul tells us that the angels belong to Christ and created for and through him (Colossians 1:16). The Letter to the Hebrews speaks of the role of the angels in God’s plan of salvation. They are all ministering spirits sent forth to serve, for the sake of those who are to obtain salvation (Hebrews 1:14).
In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we are worshipping Jesus Christ together with all the angels, especially the Archangels St. Michael, Gabriel and Rafael. When Jesus Christ gave the Divine Mercy Novena to St. Faustina he said that those adore him are like angels strengthened him during his bitter agony.
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, you unite earth and heaven in yourself through the angels who are ascending and descending upon you. May the Archangels St. Michael, Gabriel and Rafael help us to adore and serve you lovingly now and forever. Amen.
