The First Week in Ordinary Time
Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Mark 1:14-20
Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe in the gospel.” And passing along by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net in the sea; for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, “Follow me and I will make you become fishers of men.” And immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets. And immediately he called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and followed him.
This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

THE Gospel today tells us that after Jesus was baptized in the River Jordan and anointed by the Spirit he begins his ministry of preaching the Gospel. He says, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe in the gospel.” The kingdom of God is now at hand for us all who want to be ready to receive it.
How must we receive Jesus Christ? As the first disciples of Jesus, Simon ans Andrew, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, we must receive Jesus Christ by following him immediately.
We follow Jesus Christ immediatelly by repenting from our sins and believing in him. Jesus Christ gives two explicit things each of us must do to in order to receive him. We must repent and believe.
In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, while worshipping Jesus Christ, we learn to follow him immediatelly. There we offer our repentance and expectant faith to Jesus Christ. When we submit to his rule in our lives and believe in him he gives us the grace and power to live a new way of life as citizens of his kingdom.
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, help us to repent and believe in you. May we change our way of thinking, our attitude, disposition, and life choices so that you can be our Lord and Master rather than sin, selfishness, and greed. Help us to believe your word and follow you faithfully. Fill us with the joy of the gospel that your light may shine through our lives to many others now and forever. Amen.
