Thirtieth Week in Ordinary Time
Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to Luke 13:31-35
At that very hour some Pharisees came, and said to him, “Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you.” And he said to them, “Go and tell that fox, `Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I finish my course. Nevertheless I must go on my way today and tomorrow and the day following; for it cannot be that a prophet should perish away from Jerusalem.’ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, killing the prophets and stoning those who are sent to you! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not! Behold, your house is forsaken. And I tell you, you will not see me until you say, `Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!'”
This is the Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

The Gospel today proclaims that King Herod, the ruler of Galilee decides it is time to eliminate Jesus. Some of the Pharisees warns Jesus to flee from the wrath of Herod. But Jesus, in turn, warns them that they are in greater spiritual danger of losing both soul and body if they refuse to listen to God and to his messengers the prophets.
Jesus shows us that he does not fear. He calls Herod a fox. The fox is regarded as the slyest of all animals and one of the most destructive as well. It is a symbol of what is worthless and destructive.
By saying it Jesus wants to remind us that it takes great courage to stand up and openly oppose a tyrant. Jesus knows that he will suffer the same fate as the prophets who come before him. He does not only willingly expose himself to such danger, but he prays for his persecutors and for those who reject the prophets who speaks in God’s name.
In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist while worshipping Jesus Christ we ask the courage to face fox in our lives. There is always be something or even someone destructive in our lives. Do not be afraid. We also pray for our enemies and for those who oppose us.
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, you come to set us free from sin and to give us new life. Like a mother hen gathering her chicks under her protective wings, you want to save and protect us. Fill our hearts with love and mercy for others also for those who oppose us now and forever. Amen.
