The Second Week in Ordinary Time
The Second Day of The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Mark 2:23-28
One Sabbath he was going through the grain fields; and as they made their way his disciples began to pluck heads of grain. And the Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?” And he said to them, “Have you never read what David did, when he was in need and was hungry, he and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God, when Abiathar was high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those who were with him?” And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath; so the Son of man is lord even of the Sabbath.”
This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

THE Gospel today proclaims to us about Jesus Christ who says, “… the Son of man is lord even of the Sabbath.” What does it mean for us?
With this word Jesus wants to protect his disciples whom judged by the Pharisees. They confronts Jesus on this issue. In defending his disciples, Jesus says that human need has precedence over ritual custom.
In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we worship Jesus Christ who also reminds us that the Sabbath is given for our benefit. There we refresh and renew our lives in living for God.
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, you remind us that the law of Sabbath is intended for good and not for evil. May we honor you in the way we treat our neighbor and celebrate your mercy by seeking the good of our neighbor now and forever. Amen.
