Memorial of Saint Martha

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. John 11: 19-27

And many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them about their brother. When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went to meet him; but Mary sat at home. Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you.” Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise.” Martha said to him, “I know he will rise, in the resurrection on the last day.” Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” She said to him, “Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one who is coming into the world.”

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

IN the memorial of St. Martha, let’s focus on this Jesus Christ’s word for our reflection today, “I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” He not only says it to Martha but also to each of us. Do we really believe this?

Surely, this is the fundamental question in our life of faith: Do we, in fact, believe that Jesus Christ is the resurrection and the life? It is we say in the Creed every Sunday and every time we say in prayer of the Rosary and the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy.

With his word, Jesus Christ strengthens us in faith and hope to face our death and to believe in the life to come. He promises us to give abundant life forever because he himself is the Resurrection and the Life.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, we adore Jesus Christ who is the resurrection and the life. He offers us the abundant life now and forever. Do we seek the abundant life which Jesus offers to those who believe in him?

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, you are the Resurrection and the Life. Give us strength to bear the task of drawing others closer to you. Strengthen our faith and hope in your promises that you are the Resurrection and the Life. May we radiate the joy of the Gospel to others forever and ever. Amen.
