The Solemnity of Jesus Christ, The King of the Universe
Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Luke 23:35-43
And the people stood by, watching; but the rulers scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others; let him save himself, if he is the Christ of God, his Chosen One!” The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him vinegar, and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!” There was also an inscription over him, “This is the King of the Jews.” One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!” But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.” And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”
This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

TODAY is Solemnity of Jesus Christ, the King of kings, the King of the universe. We are invited to know, recognize and experience that the Lord Jesus Christ has been given all authority and power by his Father in heaven to reign over us and all creation in the heavens and the earth. The Gospel today tells us that Jesus Christ has been crucified for us as the King of kings.
Commonly, an wordly king sovereigns in this earth only. As the King of king Jesus Christ sovereigns not only in this earth but also in heaven. He delivers us, his people, and the whole world, from the worst kind of tyranny possible, from bondage to sin, guilt and condemnation, and from the wages of sin which is death. He is the merciful King for us through the shedding of his blood on the cross of Calvary.
We are called to trust our lives in his mercy as the criminal who recognizes through the eyes of faith that Jesus Christ is truly the Anointed King and Savior. Like him we pray, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom”. Jesus Christ not only grants us forgiveness, but a place with him in his everlasting kingdom. “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”
In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, we adore Jesus Christ, the King of kings, the of the universe. There we repeat unceasingly this prayer, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom” and he will answer us, saying, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” Do we recognize and experience Jesus Christ as our Sovereign King and Redeemer?
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, the King of kings, the King of the universe, remember us all when you come into your kingdom. Please rule our lives that we always trust in you, now and forever. Amen.
