Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to Mark 10:46-52
And they came to Jericho; and as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great multitude, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent; but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” And Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart; rise, he is calling you.” And throwing off his mantle he sprang up and came to Jesus. And Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” And the blind man said to him, “Master, let me receive my sight.” And Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way.
This is the Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

BARTIMAEUS, a blind man, has encountered a once in a life-time opportunity he knew he could not pass up. He was determined to get near the one person who could complete his need. And the person is Jesus Christ!
Bartimeus, the blind man, knows who Jesus is. He is Son of David. So he cries out and says, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Although many rebuke him, telling him to be silent; but he cries out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
Bartimeus, the blind man is determined to get Jesus’ attention. He is persistent in the face of opposition. He is in desperate need and Jesus is ready, not only to empathize with his suffering, but to relieve it as well.
In the Perpetual Adiration of the Eucharist while worshipping Jesus Christ, we learn to recognize our need for God’s healing grace in him. We seek Jesus Christ out, like Bartimaeus, with persistent faith and trust in his goodness and mercy.
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, you commend Bartimaeus for recognizing who you are with the eyes of faith and grants him physical sight as well. May we never fail to recognize our need for your grace. Help us to take advantage of the opportunities you give us to seek your presence daily and to listen attentively to your word now and forever. Amen.
