Memorial of Saints Andrew Kim Tae-gon, Priest, and Paul Chong Hasang, and Companions, Martyrs

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Luke 8:19-21

The mother of Jesus and his brothers came to him, but they could not reach him because of the crowd. And he was told, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, wanting to see you.” But he said to them, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it.”

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

THERE are so many people – the crowd – come to Jesus Christ. They come to him with many reasons. Some are in need of healing; some out of curiosity; some just want to hear his word; some out of love and to look after him.

When his mother and brothers wanted to see him, the Gospel today tells us, “They could not reach him because of the crowd.” What does it mean for us? It is not always easy to meet him although we seek Jesus Christ with the purest of intentions. There are some obstacles – both internal and external – along the way, and we have to be prepared for overcoming them. We have to strive to come to him, to hear and to do his word faithfully.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist while adoring Jesus Christ, we learn not only to seek him but also to do his word. Of course, Satan will always try to separate us from him by putting fear in our hearts so we don’t come to adore him. Why do we wish to see and adore him?

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, we want to see your face in all the events and happenings of this day. Help us hear your word and do it. Drive away all our enemies and spiritual tepidity that we can hear and do your word now and forever. Amen.
