Memorial of Saint Leo the Great, Pope and Doctor of the Church

Dear my friends,

Here is the Gospel for us today according to Luke 17:7-10

Jesus Christ says, “Will any one of you, who has a servant plowing or keeping sheep, say to him when he has come in from the field, `Come at once and sit down  at table’? Will he not rather say to him, `Prepare supper for me, and gird yourself and serve me, till I eat and drink; and afterward you shall eat and drink’? Does he thank the servant because he did what was commanded? So you also, when you have done all that is commanded you, say, `We are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty.'”

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

ONE of the theme we can reflect from the Gospel today is that we are called to serve God and others generously. According to Jesus, we must regard ourselves as God’s and other’s servants, just as Jesus came “not to be served, but to serve” (cfr. Matthew 20:28).

To be a servant of God and of neighbor is both a voluntary act. It is a sacred duty. We can volunteer for service in pastoral activities. We can also do service for praying.

God in Jesus Christ loves each of us first. He compels us to give our best in loving him and others. He honors the faithful servant who loves and serves others generously. He is ever ready to work in and through us for his glory.

Surely, in the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, we can serve God and love others selflessly and unconditionally in the service of prayer. There, we serve and love one another, and God abides in us then his love is perfected in us.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, your love compels us to give you our best! When we have done our best, we have simply done our duty. We realize that we can never outmatch you in doing good and showing love. So, fill our hearts with love, gratitude and generosity that we can serve you humbly, now and forever. Amen.
