Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to John 19: 25-27

Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

TODAY is the memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows. What can we learn from this event. The first announcement of her sorrow was mentioned by Simeon who said, “… and a sword will pierce your heart that the thoughts of many might be revealed”.

Recognizing the fulfillment of her calling in the accompanying of her Son during his crucifixion, she does so with a desire to fulfill God’s mysterious plan. She was standing closely to Jesus with all the sorrow that implied for her.

The Gospel today proclaims to us about our relationship with St. Mary. To St. Mary, his mother, Jesus gives the friend that he loves so much, who will also need her help in the difficulties he will face. To John, Jesus gives his mother who is his best disciple.

The Gospel also tells us, St. John took his responsibility for Mary seriously, taking her into his own home. What does it mean for us today?

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we worship Jesus Christ who gives us St. Mary, his mother. We also accept her in our heart. With St. Mary, we are in the sweetness of the traditional saying, “Home, sweet home”.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for entrusting your mother to all of us. Help us to take care of her by being an attentive, faithful son who imitates you. Mother Mary, be always at our side and intercede for us before God, in order that we persevere in following your Son, Jesus Christ now and forever. Amen.
