The First Week of Advent

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Luke 10:21-24

In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these  things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. All things have been delivered to me by my Father; and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and  any one to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.” Then turning to the disciples he said privately, “Blessed are the eyes which see what you see! For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.”

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

THE Gospel today proclaims to each of us about Jesus Christ who rejoices God in the Holy Spirit in his prayer. Jesus’ prayer tells us about God and about ourselves. Jesus tells us that God is both our Father and Lord of earth as well as heaven. He is our Heavenly Father in goodness and loving care for each of us his children.

Jesus’ prayer also contains a reflection about ourselves. He warns us that we are his children. As his children we must have simplicity of heart and humility. Simplicity of heart is wedded with humility, the queen of virtues, because humility inclines the heart towards grace and truth. Humility is the only soil in which the grace of God can take root.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist while worshipping Jesus Christ we ask the grace of Christ-like humility which inclines us towards God and disposes us to receive God’s wisdom, grace, and help. Nothing can give us greater joy than the consciousbess that we are God’s beloved children.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, grant us humility as the children of God. Give us the child-like simplicity and purity of faith to gaze upon your face with joy and confidence in your all-merciful love now and forever. Amen.
