Seventh Week of Easter
Feast of Saint Matthias, Apostle
Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. John 15:9-17
Jesus said to his disciples: “As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete. This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father. It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you. This I command you: love one another.”
This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

In the Gospel today, Jesus Christ says, “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” He does not only say it but also proves it.
Jesus Christ loves us all so much that he gave his life for each of us. With this word, he offers us his truly friendship. He invites us to remain in his love.
He gives us greatest love for us. The intimacy of the union and self-giving of the Lord Jesus Christ surpasses any human comparison, and yet he tells us that he loves us.
In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, while worshipping Jesus Christ we realize how deeply he loves us. Still, he is so moved by love that he looks beyond our betrayal he wins for us.
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, you call us your friend even though we have not always lived up to the demands of this calling. Help us to be a better and truer friend of yours now and forever. Amen.
