The first Week of Lent
Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Luke 11:29-32
When the crowds were increasing, he began to say, “This generation is an evil generation; it seeks a sign, but no sign shall be given to it except the sign of Jonah. For as Jonah became a sign to the men of Nineveh, so will the Son of man be to this generation. The queen of the South will arise at the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them; for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here. The men of Nineveh will arise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here.
This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

IN today’s Gospel, Jesus rebukes people for seeking more signs from him. He has already worked miracles, and his preaching and holiness of life are totally exceptional. Yet, some people are not satisfied.
Instead of appreciating what Jesus has done, many still look for extraordinary signs. So, Jesus teaches them about the sign of Jonah. By this he means his death and resurrection (Matthew 12:40).
In this Lenten season, we want to draw closer to God through Jesus Christ in the Holy Spirit by believing the greatest sign of salvation. There is no greater sign than this we celebrate in the Pascal Mystery. It is the true climax to which the period of Lent is directed.
In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, while worshipping Jesus Christ we ask him to purify ourselves to participate in his death and resurrection. There we are appreciating the amazing grace we have before ourr eyes.
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, the Lent is a good time for to go back to the basics, and re-encounter you in the Scripture, in the Mass and in Adoration. Help us to appreciate the great gifts you’ve given us in the Church that is your presence in the Eucharist and in the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist. There we don’t need any more signs now and forever. Amen.
