Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to Mark 10:2-16
And Pharisees came up and in order to test him asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” He answered them, “What did Moses command you?” They said, “Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of divorce, and to put her away.” But Jesus said to them, “For your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment. But from the beginning of creation, `God made them male and female.’ `For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder.” And in the house the disciples asked him again about this matter. And he said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another, commits adultery against her; and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.” And they were bringing children to him, that he might touch them; and the disciples rebuked them. But when Jesus saw it he was indignant, and said to them, “Let the children come to me, do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands upon them.
This is the Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

THE Gospel today tells us about the holiness of married life and family. Marriage is for holiness, not just for happiness. Holiness is God’s ultimate purpose in marriage.
Answering the Pharisees who come up and in order to test him ask, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?”; Jesus deals with the issue of divorce by taking them back to the beginning of creation and to God’s plan for the human race. As proclaimed in Genesis 2:23-24, God’s intention and ideal that two people who marry should become so indissolubly one that they are one flesh.
Marriage is a vocation from God to live a consecrated life, that is to live as married couples who belong not to themselves but to God. Our lives are not our own, but they belong to God. He gives the grace and power to those who seek to follow his way of holiness in their state of life.
The Gospel proclaims also that the parents must bring their children to Jesus Christ. He will lay his hands upon them. No one is unimportant to Jesus Christ. We must also show kindness to the children we encounter in our lives.
In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, while adoring Jesus Christ we pray for all families that they will always be blessed by God. We pray also for the children that they may grow in the knowledge and wisdom of Jesus Christ.
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, your call to holiness extends to all in every state of life. Sanctify our lives as married couples and as singles that we may live as men and women who are consecrated to you. Bless the Christian families that they live their holiness. May the children grow in the knowledge and wisdom of your love now and forever. Amen.
