Thirty-fourth Week in Ordinary Time

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Luke 21:29-33

And he told them a parable: “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees; as soon as they come out in leaf, you see for yourselves and know that the summer is already near. So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near. Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away till all has taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

IN closing his words about how to understand the signs of the time Jesus proclaims that his words will not pass away. Although “heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.”

What does it mean for us? Jesus wants us to trust in him. He invites us to let the fruit of God’s kingdom grow within us. It begins first in the hearts of those who are receptive to God’s word. Those who trust in God’s word will bear the fruits of his kingdom.

As we know it well, the fruits of the kingdom of God are righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Jesus gives the first-fruits of his kingdom to all of us who open our hearts to him with expectant faith and trust in his word. He wants us to be filled with joyful anticipation for his coming again.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we worship Jesus Christ who comes daily and frequently to each of us who long for him. There he speaks his words tenderly to our hearts like a lover who whispers in the ear of the beloved.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, you come to show us the way to our heavenly Father. You give us the hope of eternal life with your words. May we recognize your presence and listen to your words. Give us joyful hope and assurance that we will see you face to face and be united with you when you return in glory forever. Amen.
