Twenty-fifth Week in Ordinary Time

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to Luke 9:18-22

Now it happened that as he was praying alone the disciples were with him; and he asked them, “Who do the people say that I am?” And they answered, “John the Baptist; but others say, Elijah; and others, that one of the old prophets has risen.” And he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” And Peter answered, “The Christ of God.” But he charged and commanded them to tell this to no one, saying, “The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third  day be raised.”

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

JESUS himself polls popular opinion by asking, “Who do the crowds say that I am?” It isn’t interested in his public rating. So he asks his disciples, saying, “But who do you say that I am?”

Yesus changes his question from “Who do the crowds say that I am?” to “But who do you say that I am?” By this, he wants to teach us that what matters in life is not what others think or say about us. The only opinion that matters is what God thinks about us and what we do. It is God, not everyone knows us.

Jesus Christ now also ask us, “Who do you say that I am?”  Who is Jesus for us? Is he truly our Messiah and Redeemer?

Surely, in the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we trust in Jesus as the Christ by worshipping him. There we do what Jesus tells us, “If anyone wants to be a follower of mine, let him renounce himself and take up his cross every day and follow me” (Luke 9:23).

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, through humiliation, suffering, and death on the cross, you breaks the powers of sin and death and wins for us eternal life and freedom from the slavery of sin. Give us faith to know you personally as our Redeemer. Grant us the courage to bear witness to you as the Messiah.
now and forever. Amen.
