After Epiphany of the Lord
Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Mark 6:34-44
As he went ashore he saw a great throng, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things. And when it grew late, his disciples came to him and said, “This is a lonely place, and the hour is now late; send them away, to go into the country and villages round about and buy themselves something to eat.” But he answered them, “You give them something to eat.” And they said to him, “Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread, and give it to them to eat?” And he said to them, “How many loaves have you? Go and see.” And when they had found out, they said, “Five, and two fish.” Then he commanded them all to sit down by companies upon the green grass. So they sat down in groups, by hundreds and by fifties. And taking the five loaves and the two fish he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples to set before the people; and he divided the two fish among them all. And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and of the fish. And those who ate the loaves were five thousand men.
This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

THE Gospel today tells us Jesus Christ who not only calls us to give people something to eat but also he himself gives them bread and fish to be eaten. A great crowd of people had gathered to hear Jesus. They were hungry for God’s word. He fed them that they all ate and were satisfied.
Jesus took only five loaves and two fish and giving thanks to his Father in heaven, he blessed and distributed it to the crowd. Because of the mercy of Jesus Christ, they ate until there were satisfied of their hunger; even it was left over twelve baskets full of fish and loaves. In his mercy, nothing would be wasted.
In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we worship not only Jesus who feeds us with bread but it is he himself, the true bread of heaven which produces abundant life for us. He is the true bread of heaven that can satisfy our deepest hunger.
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, you are the true bread of heaven. By feeding the five thousand people you show the remarkable generosity of God and your great kindness towards us. In the multiplication of the loaves and fishes we see a sign and a symbol of what God always does. We believe when you give, you will give abundantly. You give more than we need for ourselves so that we may have something to share with others as well, especially those who lack what they need. May we trust in God’s provision for our lives and freely share what we have with others, especially those who lack what they need for we must give them something to eat not only physically but also spiritually now and forever. Amen.
