Being Reconciled To Our Brothers

The first Week of Lent

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Matthew 5:20-26

For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. “You have heard that it was said to the men of old, `You shall not kill; and whoever kills shall be liable to judgment.’ But I say to you that every one who is angry with his brother shall be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother shall be liable to the council, and whoever says, `You fool!’ shall be liable to the hell of  fire. So if you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Make friends quickly with your accuser, while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison; truly, I say to you, you will never get out till you have paid the last penny.

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

IN today’s Gospel Jesus tells us on how to be reconciled to our brothers. It is the fundament of our holiness. But it needs also humility.

We must always be ready to examine ourselves, before Jesus Christ and with a serious awareness of our misery and limitations. We must engage in a genuine pursuit of holiness not in of our own vanity and self-glorification but with humble heart.

Truly, pride and personal holiness mix about as well as oil and water. Where our ego is, little if any room is left for God. As the disciples of Jesus Christ we must be someone who fill ourselves totally with God in order to bring him to everyone.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist while adoring Jesus we ask him humility that we are reconciled one another. There can be no holiness without humility.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, please be the meaning and center of our entire lives. May we disappear and you appear more and more in our lives so that, we will always be an instrument for the salvation of all people now and forever. Amen.
