Thirtienth Week in Ordinary Time
Solemnity of Saints Peter and Saint Paul, Apostles

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Matthew 16:13-19

When Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Peaise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

IN this solemnity of Saints Peter and Saint Paul, let’s focus on how Jesus Christ has chosen them as his Apostles. Both were martyred in Rome in the first century. They were sanctified by his merciful love. They risked their lives in the process and gladly poured out their blood in loyalty to the Lord Jesus Christ, their Master.

St. Peter professed that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah. It involved his act of faith. In return, Jesus Christ gave Peter, as the first Pope. He is the spiritual rock ad living stone for our Church as Jesus stated.

And St. Paul gives us testimony that he has been already on the point of being sacrificed. He has kept the faith. So the Lord has stood by him and has given him strength to proclaim the message fully. The Lord has rescued him from every evil and save him for his heavenly kingdom.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we worship Jesus Christ, the Messiah. There we ask him grace to tirelessly work for the spread of the gospel to all the nations.

Ley’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, following the footsteps of St. Peter, we profess and believe that you are the Christ, the Son of the living God. Also, as St. Paul has lived it, we courageously want to fight the good fight, to finish the race, and to keep our faith. Make our faith strong like St. Peter and St. Paul. Rescue us from every evil and save us for your heavenly kingdom now and forever. Amen.
