Saturday Prayer for Priest
First Week of Advent

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Matthew 9:35-10:1,6-8

And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every infirmity. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every infirmity. “Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And preach as you go, saying, `The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying, give without pay.

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

OF course, we want a life of good health, peace, and well-being, don’t we? Jesus Christ understands his mission to bring the kingdom in all its fulness to us. In him we have a life of good health, peace, joy and well-being. He will overcome sorrow and adversity and also will bring true peace and prosperity to each of us.

The Gospel today tells us that Jesus commissions his disciples to speak God’s word and to bring his healing power to the weary and oppressed. He says, “You received without paying, give without pay.” Yes, freely we have received, so freely we give as well.

It means, what we have freely received from Jesus, we must now pass on to others without expecting any kind of reward. We must show by our attitude that our first interest is God himself, not material gain.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we worship Jesus Christ who gives us his kingdom of heaven whuch is available to those who are ready to receive it. We cannot buy heaven; but if we accept the love and mercy of Jesus we already possess heaven in our hearts!

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, you give your heavenly reign to those who receive you with faith and obedience. Even you give us  a life of good health, peace, joy and well-being. We pray and watch with confident hope for your kingdom to come in all its fullness now and forever. Amen.
