The Fifth Week of Lent
Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. John 8:1-11
But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. Early in the morning he came again to the temple; all the people came to him, and he sat down and taught them. The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and placing her in the midst they said to him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery. Now in the law Moses commanded us to stone such. What do you say about her?” This they said to test him, that they might have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground. And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.” And once more he bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground. But when they heard it, they went away, one by one, beginning with the eldest, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him. Jesus looked up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and do not sin again.”
This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

WE have reflected on this reading yesterday. Now for today, let’s focus on Jesus Christ who will always help us to find the answers by enlightening the depths of our soul. In John 8:12 we read Jesus says, “I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
In today’s Gospel, Jesus reveals his light by confronting the superficial and self-righteous reaction of the Pharisees with a mandate of Moses who commanded them to stone a women was caught in the act of adultery. Jesus wants the Pharisees to go deeper and draw out from their consciences by answering to the question they put hypocritically to him, “So what do you say?”
Unpredictable, in such situation Jesus Christ reveals himself as the light of the world by saying, “Let him without sin cast the first stone.” Here Jesus shows his mercy to the sinner woman.
In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we worship Jesus Christ, the Light of the World who shows his love and mercy to each of us. His light, love and mercy transforms our entire lives that even when we face the deepest solitude, the cruelest sickness, and the bitterest pain, we may feel intimately happy.
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, we need your love, light and mercy. Have mercy on us and give us the grace to worship you generously and sincerely so that, united to you, we show your mercy for those we meet today now and forever. Amen.
