Seventh Week of Easter

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. John 17:11-19

Lifting up his eyes to heaven, Jesus prayed, saying: “Holy Father, keep them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one just as we are. When I was with them I protected them in your name that you gave me, and I guarded them, and none of them was lost except the son of destruction, in order that the scripture might be fulfilled. But now I am coming to you. I speak this in the world so that they may share my joy completely. I gave them your word, and the world hated them, because they do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world. I do not ask that you take them out of the world but that you keep them from the evil one. They do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world. Consecrate them in the truth. Your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I sent them into the world. And I consecrate myself for them, so that they also may be consecrated in truth.”

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

THE Gospel today Jesus Christ prays, “I do not ask that you take them out of the world but that you keep them from the evil one.” Let’s reflect this word.

Jesus Christ has completed his mission of protecting each of us entrusted to his care. He ascends into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father to intercede for us; but he never leaves us.

He is always with us. Up to now we have his protection still in this world.

He grants us his gift to protect us on our pilgrimage in life. He gives us his mother, Mary, and all the saints in heaven to help us. We are surrounded by a great crowd of saints, who support our efforts to live as God wants us to live.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we worship Jesus Christ who is always protecting us. He has even prayed for us. He does not pray that we will be taken out of the world, but that we be kept from the evil one.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ you always protect us. So thank you for your loving help. Protect us from the evil one. Keep us strong in your love. Help us to continue your work in the world now and forever. Amen.
