Thirtieth Week in Ordinary Time
Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to Luke 13:10-17
Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. And there was a woman who had had a spirit of infirmity for eighteen years; she was bent over and could not fully straighten herself. And when Jesus saw her, he called her and said to her, “Woman, you are freed from your infirmity.” And he laid his hands upon her, and immediately she was made straight, and she praised God. But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, said to the people, “There are six days on which work ought to be done; come on those days and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day.” Then the Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his ass from the manger, and lead it away to water it? And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?” As he said this, all his adversaries were put to shame; and all the people rejoiced at all the glorious things that were done by him.
This is the Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

THE Gospel today proclaims that Jesus heals and frees a woman who has a spirit of infirmity for eighteen years; she is bent over and can not fully straighten herself. She must have suffered much, both physically and spiritually for eighteen years.
To the woman Jesus gives her words of faith and freedom. He restores her to health. It takes only one word from Jesus to release this woman instantly of her infirmity.
Infirmity, whether physical, emotional, or spiritual, can befall us for a variety of reasons. God can use it for some purpose that we may not understand.
In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we worship Jesus Christ who wants to set free us from oppression. Let’s believe in the power of Jesus to release us from affliction and oppression.
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, you grant freedom to those who seek you. Free us from our infirmity. Give us freedom to walk in your way of love and to praise and worship you always. Show us how we can bring your mercy and healing love to those in need around us now and forever. Amen.
