The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of The Universe

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. John 18:33-37

Pilate entered the praetorium again and called Jesus, and said to him, “Are  you the King of the Jews?” Jesus answered, “Do you say this of your own accord, or did others say it to you about me?”  Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have handed you over to me; what have you done?”  Jesus answered, “My kingship is not of this world; if my kingship were of this world, my servants would fight, that I might not be handed over to the Jews; but my kingship is not from the world.”  Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Every one who is of the truth hears my voice.”

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

TODAY is the solemnity of our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, the crowning of the liturgical year. Let’s start our meditation today by singing the mandarin song about loving Jesus forever. “Wo you yong yong yuan yuan ai Zhe Yesu. Wo you yong yong yuan yuan ai Zhe Yesu. Sui ran sheng ming zhong kuang feng he bao you jie lian bu duan na. Wo reng rang yong yong yuan yuan ai Zhe Yesu. O Tian fu Tian fu shi wo ya nin er nu shi wo yi sheng dou pei de nin en Dian. O Tian fu Tian fu shi wo ya nin er nu shi yong wo fu he Tian fu nin de zhi yi…”

This song describes us who want to love Jesus Christ forever. Whatever the situation will be, we will love Jesus Christ always for he is the centre of our lives that his light shines even amid the darkest times of our lives.

Today we are invited to recognize and to love Jesus Christ for he has been given all authority and power to reign over heaven and earth. But, as he has said to Pilate, his kingship is not of this world. He is the King of kings and his kingship is not of this world.

What is the significance of Jesus’ kingship for us? Jesus Christ is the King of kings who comes to deliver us, his people, and the whole world, from the worst kind of tyranny possible. He frees us from bondage to sin, condemnation and death. He delivers us from Satan’s kingdom of deception, oppression, and destruction.

Jesus Christ is the King of kings for he is the centre of the history of humanity and also the centre of the history of every individual. To him we can bring the joys and the hopes, the sorrows and troubles which are part of our daily lives. Jesus Christ is the centre of our lives that his light shines even amid the darkest times of our lives. He always gives us hope, for his Kingship is not part of this world as being proclaimed in today’s Gospel.

His Kingdom is not part of this world for Jesus knows that the world is in Satan’s power. We remember when Satan tempted Jesus during his forty day fast in the wilderness, he offered Jesus all the kingdoms of the world (Matthew 4:8-9). And Jesus knows that the way to victory is through submission to his Father’s will and strategy for overcoming sin and Satan in the world. Jesus is our King through the shedding of his blood on the cross of Calvary. There, he died as King of all the nations.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we worship Jesus Christ the King of the Universe. There we serve the Lord Jesus Christ as our King of kings that he will open our eyes to the light of his truth and guide us on the course that leads to our true homeland and security with God. If we accept Jesus Christ as Lord and King we become citizens of an everlasting kingdom which is governed by God’s righteousness, peace, and love.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, we submitt our lives to you as our King. You are our King and there is no other. Be the King of our heart, mind, body, and soul. May we always love you and seek to do your will and to serve your kingdom above all else now and forever. Amen.
