MY daily reflection and prayer:

Memorial of St. Monica

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to Matthew 24:42-51

Jesus Christ said, “Watch therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the householder had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have watched and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready; for the Son of man is coming at an hour you do not expect. “Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his master has set over his household, to give them their food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master when he comes will find so doing. Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions. But if that wicked servant says to himself, `My master is delayed,’ and begins to beat his fellow servants, and eats and drinks with the drunken, the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will punish him, and put him with the hypocrites; there men will weep and gnash their teeth.”

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

THE Gospel today tells us that Jesus Christ has promised us a great victory celebration when he returns to put down his enemies and to establish his everlasting kingdom of peace, joy, and righteousness. That day when Jesus Christ returns will be joy and peace for those who are prepared to meet him.

With his parable, Jesus Christ wants to tell us that he will return to establish his everlasting kingdom for us. He has been sent by the eternal Father in heaven to save us from the tyranny of sin and death.

His sacrificial death on the cross and his triumphant victory over the grave has won pardon for us. He has reconciled us with our heavenly Father and promised everlasting life and joy in his kingdom. He has promised us a new heavens and earth wherein we will be perfectly united with God in peace, joy, and harmony forever.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, while wirshipping Jesus Christ, we learn to be ready to give our account to the Lord Jesus Christ. He has entrusted each of us the grace to love God with faithfulness, trust, and obedience and the grace to love our neighbor as ourselves. He calls us to be vigilant in watching for his return and to be ready to meet him when he calls us to himself.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, give us your Holy Spirit so that we may have the wisdom, help, and strength we need to turn away from sin to embrace your way of love, justice, and holiness. Make us strong in faith, steadfast in hope, and generous in love that we may seek to please you in all things and bring you glory forever and ever. Amen.
