Twenty-eighth Week in Ordinary Time

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to Luke 11:42-46

Jesus says, “But woe to you Pharisees! because you give God a tenth of your mint and rue and every herb, but neglect justice and the love of God; these you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. Woe to you Pharisees! for you love the best seat in the synagogues and salutations in the market places. Woe to you! for you are like graves which are not seen, and men walk over them without knowing it.” One of the lawyers answered him, “Teacher, in saying this you reproach us also.” And he said, “Woe to you lawyers also! for you load men with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of  your fingers.”

This is the Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

THE Gospel today tells us that   Jesus was so angry with the Pharisees. It’s because they failed to listen to God’s word. They also misled the people they were supposed to guide in the ways of God. They were leading people to Pharisaism rather than to God.

The Pharisees were very attentive to minute matters of little importance, but they neglected to care for the needy and the weak. They put unnecessary burdens on others and neglected to show charity, especially to the weak and the poor. Their hearts were not right.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist we worship Jesus Christ who teaches us that the essence of God’s commandments is love. True love both embraces and lifts the burdens of others.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, grant us your Holy Spirit that we  help our neighbors carry their burdens. You give each of us sufficient grace for each day to love as you love and to lift the burdens of others that they, too, may experience your grace and love forever and ever. Amen.
