Twelfth Week in Ordinary Time
Solemnity of the Nativity of John the Baptist
Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Luke 1:57-66, 80
When the time arrived for Elizabeth to have her child she gave birth to a son. Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy toward her, and they rejoiced with her. When they came on the eighth day to circumcise the child, they were going to call him Zechariah after his father, but his mother said in reply, “No. He will be called John.” But they answered her, “There is no one among your relatives who has this name.” So they made signs, asking his father what he wished him to be called. He asked for a tablet and wrote, “John is his name,” and all were amazed. Immediately his mouth was opened, his tongue freed, and he spoke blessing God. Then fear came upon all their neighbors, and all these matters were discussed throughout the hill country of Judea. All who heard these things took them to heart, saying, “What, then, will this child be?” For surely the hand of the Lord was with him. The child grew and became strong in spirit, and he was in the desert until the day of his manifestation to Israel.
This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

TODAY is Solemnity of the Nativity of John the Baptist. The Gospel reading today tells us about his nativity. It brought happiness to all neighbors and relatives.
They rejoiced with his mother for God had shown his great mercy toward her. They marveled at the wonderful way in which God blessed her with a child. God destined him for an important mission.
Elizabeth, his mother said to the neighbors and relatives, “He will be called John.” Zechariah, his father also wrote, “John is his name!” A name defines a person’s identity. The name John means “the Lord of God is gracious”.
In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, while worshipping Jesus Christ we can reflect on the meaning of our name. There we also ask ourleves: Do we recognize that God destines us for an important mission? Do we rejoice God in our daily life?
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, you have destined us for an important mission to bring your mercy in our daily life. Remind us of this truth, and help us in a special way to rejoice you in our life now and forever. Amen.
