The Fourth Week of Advent

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Luke 1:39-45

IN those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a city of Judah, and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and she exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And why is this granted me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, when the voice of your greeting came to my ears, the babe in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfilment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.”

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

The same Gospel proclaimed to us today as yesterday. Yesterday we reflected on the words of Elizabeth to Mary contained blessing and happiness.

Now let’s focus on the meeting of the two moms. This meeting of the moms is the visitation of Mary to Elizabeth. Elizabeth is the older woman; Mary, the younger. Elizabeth is in her sixth month; Mary’s pregnancy has just started.

Their meeting is commonly called visitation of these two most uncommon mothers, Mary and Elizabeth. It is not only a meeting of the two moms but also the first meeting of the two baby boys they are carrying inside of them. In particular, it is the baby boy whose name is Jesus, that Mary is carrying, that makes this meeting a blessed visitation. Jesus’ presence makes them blessed and brings them happiness.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, we have a blessed meeting with Jesus Christ to whom we adore. The presence of Jesus Christ among us brings us great joy.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, your presence here makes us happy and rejoice. Grant us humility and the faith of Elizabeth so that we believe in you and feel blessed now and forever. Amen.
