Thirty-first Week in Ordinary Time

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to Luke 16:1-8

He also said to the disciples, “There was a rich man who had a steward, and charges were brought to him that this man was wasting his goods. And he called him and said to him, `What is this that I hear about you? Turn in the account of your stewardship, for you can no longer be steward.’ And the steward said to himself, `What shall I do, since my master is taking the stewardship away from me? I am not strong enough to dig, and I am ashamed to beg. I have decided what to do, so that people may receive me into their houses when I am put out of the stewardship.’ So, summoning his master’s debtors one by one, he said to the first, `How much do you owe my master?’ He said, `A hundred measures of oil.’ And he said to him, `Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.’ Then he said to another, `And how much do you owe?’ He said, `A hundred measures of wheat.’ He said to him, `Take your bill, and write eighty.’ The master commended the dishonest steward for his shrewdness; for the sons of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than the sons of light.”

This is the Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

THE Gospel today tells us about the shrewd steward who are clever and generous. Before news of his dismissal becomes public knowledge, he makes a deal with his master’s debtors. In fact, in discounting their debts he is giving up his generous commission. Such a deal wins him great favor with the debtors.

Since the steward acts as the landowner’s agent, such a deal makes his master look very generous and forgiving towards those who own him money. Surely everyone would praise such a generous landowner as the town hero! It’s why the master praises him for he has made his master appear as a generous and merciful landowner.

With this story, Jesus obviously wants to theach us about being genereousity in the crisis and dificulty. It can save us from moral and spiritual disaster. St.
Ambrose has said that true wealth consists not in what we keep but in what we give away. We have to use what we have and to put them at the service of others.

For being adorators in the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, we must have a generous heart to pray and worship Jesus Christ. When we worship him in the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, we adore Jesus Christ who loves generosity. Our hearts must be possessed by God’s love. This is the most treasure in our heart.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, all that we have is a gift from you. May we love you freely and generously with all that we possess. Help us to be a generous and faithful steward of the resources you put at our lives, including the use of our talents, time, money, and possessions now and forever. Amen.
