Thirtienth Week in Ordinary Time
Memorial of Saint Irenaeus, Bishop and martyr

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St. Matthew 8:23-27

As Jesus got into the boat, his disciples followed him. A windstorm arose on the sea, so great that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. And they went and woke him up, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, you of little faith?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a dead calm. They were amazed, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?”

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ.

LET’S imagine that we are in the place of the disciples tossed by the turbulent waves of life and yet Jesus sleeps. The sleeping Jesus is surely his silence. It’s not his indiffirence.

Surely, we can learn that trials in our life are intended by God to draw us closer to him. It increases our dependence on him. There we have to live from faith in Christ.

From the Gospel reading today we know that the silence of Jesus Christ is so powerful. It teaches us to deeper trust in him.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist while worshipping Jesus Christ, we trust in the power of the silence of Jesus Christ. It makes us believe that every wave and wind gust are blessed invitations to confide in Jesus Christ who rules all. What would we do, when we are in trouble, but Jesus Christ seemed aseep? Do we trust the power of Christ’s silence?

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, you never forget us; instead you always be ready to calm our fears and preserve our joy in the midst of problems and difficulties. You always console our hearts. Help us totally trust in your hands now and forever. Amen.
