The Fourth Week of Advent

Dear my friends,
Here is the Gospel for us today according to St Luke 1:67-79

And his father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying, “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has visited and redeemed his people, and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David, as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets from of old, that we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all who hate us; to perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant, the oath which he swore to our father Abraham, to grant us that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies, might serve him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before him all the days of our life. And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways, to give knowledge of salvation to his people in the forgiveness of their sins, through the tender mercy of our God, when the day shall dawn upon us from on high to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

LET’S feel blessed for as being experienced by Zechariah, the proclamation of the Gospel will fill us with joy and hope. God comes to redeem us and he fills us with his Holy Spirit, the source of our joy and hope in the promises of God.

The Gospel today tells us that Zechariah is filled with the Holy Spirit and with great joy. Inspired by the Holy Spirit he speaks out a prophetic word and hymn of blessing for the work of redemption which will be accomplished in Christ.

In the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, while worshipping Jesus Christ, we ask him to grant us the Holy Spirit who gives Zechariah a vision for his own son as a prophet and forerunner who will prepare the way for Jesus Christ. Now, like Zechariah, the Holy Spirit wants to give us joy and confidence in the knowledge of God’s merciful love, protection, and care which he offers us through his Son Jesus Christ.

Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, you are the tender mercy of our God. Guide our feet into the way of your joy and peace. You come to visit us each day with your life-giving Word and Spirit. Draw us to yourself and show us your love and mercy now and forever. Amen.
